What I’ve Learned Coaching 100+ Clients (It’s Not What You Think)

One thing I’ve noticed—over and over again—is that people aren’t always sincere.

Not with themselves.

And not with me.

They’ll say,

My doctor told me to move more

or

I just want to get a bit fitter.

And sure, maybe that’s part of it.

But it’s rarely the whole story.

When we dig a little deeper…

What do most people want?

To lose a few kilos.

To feel stronger.

To feel better.

That’s when we start talking about weight loss vs. fat loss—because, yeah, those aren’t the same thing.

Even now, with strength training finally going mainstream, people still worry.

“I’ve got a sore back.”

“I don’t want to get too bulky.”

But here’s the truth:

Getting stronger fixes back pain. It doesn’t cause it.

And putting on serious muscle?

That takes years of training, wild discipline, and—honestly—usually steroids.

Another big one? Expectations.

If you’ve been inactive for years, maybe decades,

You won't experience a dramatic transformation in 12 weeks.

You’ll make progress.

But it takes time.

It takes consistency.

And it takes a mindset shift.

But when you do stick with it,

Something incredible happens.

You get confident.

You start training outside our sessions.

You ask questions. You read about fitness.

You own it.

And for me…

That’s everything.

This isn’t just a job.

It’s what I love to do.

Helping people change their minds, their bodies, and their lives.

My favourite moment?

When someone who’s never thought of themselves as an “athlete”…

They decide to test their fitness.

Their first 5k.

A kettlebell comp.

Even just signing up for something scary.

That’s when they catch the bug.

And everything changes.
